This was the second in my do-it-myself documentary efforts for my journalism class. I was disappointed that I hadn’t got to feature more of my clown footage from the Surreal Sirkus feature. I walked up to ToyBox at the end of the Surreal Sirkus Arts Festival and asked America’s Favorite Cartoon Witch if they would grant me an interview, and he agreed.

I found myself driving out one night in torrential rain to go meet a clown who lived 45 minutes away down winding mountain roads. I hadn’t yet officially met know Keith Shubert or his partner Jennifer Bennett, who graciously helped me when my camera defaulted to factory settings and I had no idea what to do.

I hope I captured some of the magic of the clown with this short feature, and also some of the childlike wonder I felt when I was surrounded by all the puppets, toys and makeup.

The interviews and performances at Girl and Goblin were filmed by me, and I did all the editing. The amazing footage from episodes of ToyBox Theatre were filmed and edited by Jennifer Bennett of JenBen Media.
