And this is where it all began! For my neuroscience class , we were tasked to do a piece of science communication, and I chose film. I remember thinking “I want to learn to make films while I’m at UNCA”–you know, to play behind my band at gigs so we could look really cool with a projector. I had not idea how much I would love it, and I would later change my major to pursue more filmmaking and visual storytelling.
The topic-about how blue light affects everything-was someone else’s idea, but it worked perfectly: the Zoom screens during Covid actually helped tell the story. I learned all about using creative commons visuals, and I scored the film myself.
I owe the success of this project to the students who worked at the Media Design Lab; they taught me how to use my trial version of Final Cut Pro over screen-share.
